Polk State Hosting Almost There Band and Violinist Daniel Davis for Performances in September

Polk State College will host cover band Almost There and contemporary violinist Daniel Davis for performances in early September.

The four-member Almost There band has toured throughout the United States, opening for acts including Kansas, Eddie Money, Craig Morgan, L.A. Guns, Zack Hexum, Thomas Nicholas Band and Copeland. Almost There performs a wide range of fan favorites, including hits by Marvin Gaye and Bruno Mars. For its talents and versatility, the band won the 2013 Mai Tai Rumble Battle of the Bands competition in Daytona Beach.

Violinist Daniel Davis, meanwhile, has produced five studio albums. He is also a four-time winner of the Apollo Theatre’s Amateur Night, recipient of the Charlotte Music Award, and has been featured on the BET show, “106 & Park.” He also performed for President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign and for a host of other celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Jesse Jackson, and the late Dr. Maya Angelo and Michael Jackson.

Davis is a native of Charleston, S.C., and a 2007 graduate of the Charleston County School of the Arts. He was also awarded a summer scholarship to New York’s Juilliard School.

Almost There and Davis will make their Polk State debuts during a joint performance from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. on Sept 2 at the Polk State JD Alexander Center, 152 E. Central Ave. in Lake Wales.

The following day, Sept. 3, both acts will give solo performances. Davis will perform at the Polk State Lakeland Student Center, 3425 Winter Lake Road, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Almost There will perform at the Polk State Winter Haven Fine Arts Lobby, 999 Ave. H N.E., from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
