Polk State to host Seussical the Musical in November

Posted on by Polk Newsroom

For two weeks in November, the magic of Dr. Seuss will come to Polk State College’s Winter Haven Fine Arts (WFA) Theatre.

The Polk State Theatre Department will put on its rendition of Seussical the Musical from November 13 through 15 and November 19 through 22. One of the most performed shows in the U.S., Seussical the Musical is a fantastical, magical musical extravaganza with beloved Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and a child with a big imagination – Jojo. The show follows Horton and Gertrude, who aim to bring peace to the Jungle of Nool.

“Our faculty and students are incredibly excited to bring the wonder of Dr. Seuss to our stage here on campus,” said Nancy Lozell, Program Manager for The Arts at Polk State. “Everyone has worked extremely hard and we can’t wait to bring this classic to life for our community.”

Polk State students will star in the production written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. The show features reprises from Dr. Seuss favorites such as Green Eggs and Ham, Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!, and Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?

“Productions like Seussical the Musical showcase the talent, creativity, and dedication of our students while making the arts accessible to the community,” said Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas. “We are proud to provide opportunities for our students to develop their skill set, share their passion, and bring a beloved story to life for audiences of all ages.”

The show is directed by Professor of Theatre Mark Hartfield. Professor of Music Virginia Zechiel will direct the music. It is choreographed by local performer Shannon Schreier.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances, and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free for all K-12 students as well as Polk State students, faculty, and staff. It is $10 for the public. More information and tickets are available online at polk.edu/the-arts/box-office.
