Four Polk State College students were honored at Thursday’s Florida College System All-Florida Academic Team Awards.

At the event in Tampa, the Florida College System, comprised of Polk State and 27 other public colleges, announced its 2016 All-Florida Academic First and Second Teams. The All-Florida Academic Team recognizes students for outstanding academic achievements, community service, and leadership.

Polk State student Victoria Goucher, a Lakeland resident pursuing her Associate in Arts degree, was named to the All-Florida Academic First Team.

Named to the All-Florida Academic Second Team were Jaysha Camacho, a Winter Haven resident pursuing her Associate in Arts degree; Angela Duffield, a Winter Haven resident pursuing her Associate in Science in Cardiovascular Technology; and Nazmul Nayeem, a Lakeland resident pursuing his Associate in Arts degree.

On hand to celebrate the All-Florida Academic Team honorees Thursday were Florida College System Chancellor Madeline Pumariega and State Board of Education Chair Marva Johnson.

Duffield attended with her husband and 12-year-old daughter Sarah.

“This means a lot to me, and it means even more to share it with my youngest child so that I can inspire and be a role model to her,” Duffield said.

Thursday’s event fell during Florida College System Month, in honor of the great work Florida’s 28 public colleges are doing to prepare students for future success.
