Polk State College’s Women’s Soccer Team had another great year. They had an undefeated regular season and finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the country in two polls. Following their second appearance at the NJCAA National Tournament, the Vikings finished fifth.

Coach Bill Read was proud of his team’s finish. “I can’t complain. If we can be in the top 10, that’s an accomplishment in itself,” he said. “Our defense was very strong. Freshmen Jill Maykut, Danielle Derama and Erika Resendez, along with Sophomore Robin Loughry all did a very good job.” He also praised goalkeeper Kayla Hanson, the 10th-ranked goalie in the nation in scoring defense.

“I want to emphasize that this has been a team effort,” said Coach Read, who was named South Area Coach of the Year for Junior Colleges, as well as Region 8, and District F Coach of the Year.

The 2010 season also looks bright. The Vikings are ranked fifth nationally in the NJCAA’s pre-season poll.
