Polk State Athletics media team brings home five national recognitions
The media team responsible for highlighting Polk State College’s five athletics teams brought home more national recognitions this year — this time from the Two-Year College Sports Information Directors of America’s (2YSIDA) 2025-2026 Creative Contest.
The Office of Communications and Public Affairs’ (OCPA) Program Manager for College Information Mike Ferguson, Graphic and Digital Designer David Butfiloski, and Multimedia Production Specialist Juan Santana placed in half of the 10 categories, including three first-place spots and one category where they placed both first and second.
“Polk State’s student-athletes continue to succeed on the court, in the field, and in the classroom. Our College’s media team ensures that their successes are not only documented but also amplified and shared strategically and creatively across our community and athletics networks,” said Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas. “I commend them on their work, well-deserved recognitions, and continued commitment to showcasing our athletics teams.”

Continued success
“Polk State’s communications team continues to set the standard. Their national recognition for athletics is well earned and a credit to their creativity and work ethic,” said Polk State Athletics Director Randy Lee. “OCPA does a phenomenal job showcasing the talent, determination, and success of our student-athletes and coaches.”
Ferguson was also recognized as College Sports Communicators’ Two-Year Sports Information Director of the Month in December 2025.
Since joining Polk State in 2022 as Program Manager for Media Relations, Ferguson has elevated the visibility of Polk State Athletics through innovative and consistent multimedia storytelling by working closely with Butfiloski, Santana, and the rest of the OCPA team.
He led the launch of the Polk State Athletics Yearbook in 2023, which earned a bronze award of excellence from the Association of Florida Colleges Communications and Marketing Commission. He was also integral in the 2022 relaunch of polkeagles.com, which has received both gold and silver honors in recent years.
“This kind of excellence doesn’t just document what our teams achieve – it tells our story, elevates our College, and puts Polk State Athletics on the map,” said Associate Vice President of Communications Madison Fantozzi. “I am proud of the OCPA team.”
