Transferring to another school can seem like a giant undertaking, and may be a bit intimidating if you don’t know where to begin. Below you will find some easy to follow steps that will help you prepare to transfer at the completion of your associate degree.

It’s Never Too Soon to Start

Many students wait until they are at the end of their degree to begin working on transferring to another school or university. Don’t wait! To Complete My Associate Degree or Not?

Students often ask if they should complete their degree or go ahead and transfer without the degree in hand. While you can still transfer without having completed your associate degree, having the degree makes the transition much easier. The state of Florida guarantees that students who complete an associate degree at a community or state college have the opportunity to enroll in and earn a bachelor’s degree at a state university. This is commonly referred to as the 2+2 program, helping make the transition to a university a smooth one. While the guarantee exists, it is important to note that schools and programs may have additional requirements that do not fall under this agreement.

Do Your Research

If you postpone doing your research until you are at the end of your degree program, you may not realize the requirements needed to get into a specific major at the university level. Start by visiting the websites of the schools you are considering. Ask yourself, do they have the program you want? Is it offered during the days and times you have available? Is there a better option at another school? Find out if they have specific GPA requirements. Most programs are competitive and want the best students out there, don’t miss your opportunity by a few points on your GPA.

It’s OK, They Don’t Bite
