Dr. Paul Howe has been a distinguished faculty member in the Bachelor of Applied Science for Supervision and Management curriculum for 10 years. He is also the curriculum lead for Polk State College’s Hospitality Program.
His industry career includes being a former Director of Education for the largest travel association in the world while employed at the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) and working in marketing for the Marine Sports Division while at Divi Resorts, Inc., a Caribbean resort chain. Howe is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force in security police.
Professional and Academic Background
Howe has been a member of the International Society of Travel & Tourism Educators (ISTTE) since 1994 and served on the Board of Directors from 2000-2003.
Howe is also a scuba instructor trainer and founded the premier scuba facility in New York’s Finger Lakes. He has also written for Skin Diver Magazine, Underwater USA and The Northeast Dive Journal. His underwater photos have been published in The Boston Globe, Skin Diver Magazine and Vermont Magazine. He worked with the Center for Marine and Underwater Resource Management (CMURM) at Michigan State University and has been a featured speaker at the international Diving Equipment and Marketing Association (DEMA) convention each year since 1999.
Howe is internationally recognized as an authority in hospitality and has taught Master of Business Administration (MBA) and hospitality courses abroad in Kosovo and Croatia for Rochester Institute of Technology, Dubai at the Higher Colleges of Technology and Assumption University in Bangkok. He is also an adjunct professor at several schools including Purdue Global University and Johnson & Wales University where he developed curriculum and teaches graduate courses in its MBA and master’s degree in hospitality management programs.
Leadership and Public Service
He was awarded the Polk State Foundation Endowed Chair scholarship in 2020.
He is a member of the Diving Alert Network (DAN) for scuba professionals. Additionally, he has done research for the Tourism Corporation Bonaire and the Victoria Island Tourism Board.
Education
Howe earned a Ph.D. in Organization and Management from Capella University and a master’s degree and bachelor’s degrees in hospitality management from Rochester Institute of Technology.
