Dr. Anne B. Kerr serves as Interim President of Polk State College, bringing decades of distinguished leadership in higher education to the institution. A respected academic leader with deep roots in Florida’s educational landscape, Dr. Kerr guides the College as it continues to advance its mission of providing high-quality education and workforce training to the community it serves.
Dr. Kerr served as President of Florida Southern College for 20 years and now holds the title of President Emerita. Her tenure was marked by transformative growth in academic programs, campus development and student achievement. Under her leadership, Florida Southern established the Barney Barnett School of Business and Free Enterprise, the Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing, the School of Physical Therapy and the School of Architecture. She also oversaw the launch of doctoral programs in Education, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Psychology.
During her presidency, enrollment and retention increased significantly, and student academic quality reached new heights. Florida Southern was recognized as a “Top Producer of Fulbright Scholars,” reflecting the institution’s growing national profile. Career outcomes flourished as well, with 98% of Florida Southern graduates employed or continuing their education during her final year as president.
Dr. Kerr was also instrumental in the addition of 22 buildings, as well as the expansion and renovation of 20 existing facilities. Florida Southern also restored many of its iconic structures designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Institutional assets tripled during Dr. Kerr’s tenure, strengthening the College’s financial foundation for future generations.
Before her presidency at Florida Southern, Dr. Kerr held a variety of educational and administrative roles in Florida and Virginia, building a strong background in student services and institutional leadership. She earned her doctorate and master’s degree from Florida State University and her bachelor’s degree from Mercer University.
Her professional accomplishments have been widely recognized. In 2017, she was inducted into the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame. She also serves on the board of the nationally recognized Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation and is active in her community through volunteer service with Bible Study Fellowship.
As Interim President of Polk State College, Dr. Kerr is committed to sustaining and accelerating the institution’s upward trajectory. She works closely with the District Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students and community partners to maintain momentum in academic excellence, student support initiatives and workforce development. Her steady leadership ensures that Polk State continues to expand opportunities and deliver meaningful impact across the region.
