Program Profile: Educator Preparation Institute
The Educator Preparation Institute (EPI), an alternative teacher-certification program at Polk State College, is designed for professionals with a four-year non-education degree who have a desire to teach in the K-12 school system.
Polk State College’s EPI has become the largest in the state, graduating more students than any of the other 28 community/state college Educator Preparation Institutes.
The program includes taking seven one-month courses, passing the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE), completing 30 hours of field experience in participant’s subject area in a K-12 classroom setting, and a teaching demonstration. Participants are eligible for the Florida Professional Teaching Certificate after graduating from the EPI program.
