Polk State renames TLCCs to Tutoring and Testing Centers

Polk State College has changed the name of its Teaching Learning Computing Centers (TLCCs) on the Winter Haven and Lakeland campuses and at the JD Alexander Center in Lake Wales to the Tutoring and Testing Centers to better reflect the range of student support available. This will also make it easier for students to find the help they need when seeking some of the College’s most critical services.
This new name more accurately highlights the primary offerings of the centers, including tutoring in person and online across a wide variety of subjects, and testing and proctoring services. Additionally, the centers provide technology access and support.
“Student feedback showed that the former name did not clearly communicate everything we offer,” said Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas. “The Tutoring and Testing Center name instantly tells students where to go for academic support and exam services, removing confusion and helping them reach resources more quickly.”
Services available at the Tutoring and Testing Centers include:
- In person and online tutoring in Math, English, Writing, Sciences, and more
- Placement testing, course exams, CLEP, TEAS, and proctored testing
- Computer workstations, printing, copying, scanning, and technology assistance
- Support with Polk Portal, Canvas, and other digital tools
Signage and campus maps have been updated to reflect the new name. The centers remain conveniently located on each main campus and at the JD Alexander Center in Lake Wales:
