Polk State College’s Music Department will perform choir classics, jazz favorites and contemporary music during a concert presented by the Lake Wales Arts Council.

The concert, titled “A New Sound,” will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, in Updike Hall at the Polk State College Lake Wales Arts Center, 1099 State Road 60 East.

Tickets are $15 and are available at the Polk State College Lake Wales Arts Center Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling 863.676.8426. Tickets may also be purchased at the door just prior to the event.

Performing in the concert will be the Polk State College Chorale, Dolce Fiamma (Sweet Flame) Women’s Chorus, and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Music Professor John Anderson, who conducts Chorale and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, said attendees are in for an afternoon of surprises.

“There will be such a variety, everything from a capella jazz to Russian church music,” Anderson said. “It’s such a wide swing.”

Anderson added that Updike Hall is an ideal location for vocal performances.

“Where else do you find a dome over the audience,” Anderson said. “It’s the perfect room to sing in. The audience is in for a real treat.”
