Music Majors to Present Final Projects, Including Films and Live Performances

Posted on by Polk Newsroom

Polk State music majors will be presenting their final projects on Tuesday, April 24.

Anyone interested in a morning filled with musical performances and short films is invited to attend.

Nineteen music students will share their Theory IV final projects. In completing their final projects, students had the option of giving a live performance or creating a music video or short film. All projects will feature students’ original compositions.

Music Professor Michelle Manzi started the performance-based final projects three years ago. Previously, music majors completed a written test covering the principals of music theory at the end of the semester.

“These students have all this knowledge and now they have to use it to create their own music,” Manzi said.

“This is the highest form of learning.”

The students giving final projects represent all areas of Polk State’s Music Program, including vocals, piano, strings, jazz, guitar and band.

Presentations will begin at 9 a.m. in WFA 121, located inside the Winter Haven Fine Arts building. Film screenings will begin shortly afterward in WFA 132. Manzi said presentations will end at 10:15 a.m.
