Posted on by Polk Newsroom

Polk State Winter Haven will host a Halloween costume contest and an encore performance by Chris McCarty during a lunchtime event Thursday.

The concert will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Student Center.

McCarty, a pop-rock guitarist, singer and songwriter, has performed with the likes of James Brown, the Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz and Colbie Callait. He has also appeared on America’s Got Talent and NBC Daytime. He last performed at Polk in May.

Samples of his music can be found at chrismccarty.com. McCarty’s concert is free and open to the public. It is part of the Polk State Lake Wales Arts Center’s Downtown Concert Series and Arts Incubator Series, both of which have brought a wide variety of musicians, actors and visual artists to the area.

Polk State Winter Haven SALO’s costume contest is scheduled for noon, immediately following McCarty’s performance. Costume contest guidelines follow:

  • Costumes may not include weapons, and should not be vulgar, offensive or provocative.
  • A panel of judges will select winners based on creativity and crowd applause.
  • The first-place winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card, second-place will receive a $30 Cold Stone gift card, and the third-place winner will receive a $15 iTunes gift card.

All students are invited to participate in the costume contest.
