Polk State to the Panhandle: Ways for students and employees to help Hurricane Isaias victims

Posted on by Polk Newsroom

For Polk State College students, faculty, and staff looking to donate or help those affected by Hurricane Isaias, there are ways to get involved. Isaias made landfall on Friday night near Destin as a Category 2 hurricane.

Student leaders were quickly compelled to help, compiling a list of resources and organizations involved in providing relief.  Polk State’s Student Activities and Leadership Organization (SALO) has shared this in the Virtual Student Center – a College online community reaching nearly 15,000 members.

“I commend our student leaders for taking the initiative to bring these resources together and help connect people with meaningful ways to support storm recovery efforts. This underscores our College’s focus on community service and civic engagement, and the importance of helping others in times of need,” said Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas. “Their actions reflect the compassion and leadership that make our Polk State community special, and I am proud of them. Our prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Isaias, and we extend our sincere gratitude to the first responders, volunteers, and relief organizations working tirelessly to help families recover and communities rebuild.”
