After a transformative renovation, the Polk State Winter Haven Fine Arts Theatre is preparing to welcome audiences back to its revitalized theatre with an exciting 2025-2026 season. The revamped venue, boasting enhanced acoustics, modernized seating, and state-of-the-art lighting, sets the stage for a trio of captivating productions that promise to enchant, challenge, and entertain. The Polk State Theatre Department has curated a season that blends timeless romance, gripping drama, and lighthearted comedy, showcasing the power of live performance.

Kicking off the season in November is Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, translated by Brian Hooker and adapted by Mark Hartfield. This immortal play follows the gallant Cyrano, a masterful swordsman and poet whose larger-than-life spirit is matched only by his self-doubt over his unconventional appearance. A tale of chivalry, wit, and unrequited love, Cyrano weaves exquisite language with bittersweet romance, cementing its place as one of the most beloved works in theatrical history. Audiences will be swept away by its timeless exploration of courage and the human heart.

In February, the season will delve into thought-provoking drama with Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley, winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Set in a Bronx school, the play centers on Sister Aloysius, a resolute principal who suspects Father Flynn of inappropriate conduct with a student. This taut, beautifully crafted drama explores the shadows of truth and morality, leaving audiences to grapple with questions of faith and certainty. Praised by the Chicago Tribune as “a beautifully balanced drama,” Doubt promises a riveting, introspective experience.

Closing the season in April is The Good Doctor, a delightful collaboration between Neil Simon and Anton Chekhov. This Broadway hit presents a series of comic vignettes narrated by “The Writer,” blending Chekhov’s poignant storytelling with Simon’s signature humor. From whimsical tales to affectionate portraits, the play offers infectious fun and heartfelt moments. As The New York Times notes, “There is much fun here. Mr. Simon’s comic fancy is admirable.” This production is sure to leave audiences smiling and uplifted.

The renovated Polk State Winter Haven Fine Arts Building not only enhances the audience experience but also provides Polk State’s talented students and faculty with a cutting-edge space to bring these stories to life. The renovations were possible thanks to a $16.2 million allocation of the Florida State Legislature in Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) funds in 2021. The theatre’s reopening marks a new chapter for the Polk County arts community, inviting students, faculty and local residents to reconnect with the magic of live performance.
