Polk State Theatre will debut its first production of the Fall 2020 Season on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020 with “Shakespeare Rising,” a stage reading of a new play by Mary Jane Schaefer directed by Mark Graham.

Performances will take place through Oct. 4. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. except for the Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. Shows are free for students, faculty, and staff, and $10 for the public. Tickets can be purchased online at www.polk.edu/boxoffice, by calling 863.297.1050, or by visiting the box office one hour prior to curtain time.

It is important to note that seating is limited to ensure social distancing and compliance with Be the Solution: Polk State College’s Return to Campus Plan, which all individuals are expected to review prior to visiting campus. The College remains in Phase II of its Return to Campus Plan and all students, faculty, staff, and visitors are required to wear cloth face coverings while on campus.

“Shakespeare Rising” tells the story of the Bard and his relationships with his parents, wife, child, companions, and partners in the theatre in London. Filled with quotes from his plays and interesting historical insights, “Shakespeare Rising” gives a new understanding of the great playwright and is presented as a stage reading to focus on the story and text of the play, keeping both performers and the audience safe with limited movement and proximity.
