Polk State College takes the well-being of the College community very seriously and continues to enhance safety and security at all its locations.
This commitment is evidenced with annual investments including the expansion of the College’s contract with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in 2021 to add additional deputies to campuses and centers. Additionally, Polk State’s Public Safety and Security Department has restarted in-person safety training and self-defense courses and the College will be launching a safety app for mobile devices.
Also, beginning this month, contractors will be on campus to expand the College’s video surveillance system. The system is being enhanced to allow for better coverage across all campuses and centers, and to supplement the work of the College’s Public Safety and Security team. It is expected that contractors will be working on the system throughout the fall semester.
While the investment in additional tools to enhance safety is critical, a safe environment on campus is the responsibility of all who come to learn, work, and visit the institution. The College community depends on all its members to help create a safe environment by being aware of their surroundings and reporting suspicious incidents and individuals. Let’s continue to work together to keep the community safe.
