Polk State College and LEGOLAND® Florida Resort celebrated the latest extension of their partnership with an open house on Wednesday at the LEGOLAND® Beach Retreat, where the public learned more about the opportunity to achieve employment with the resort and prepaid scholarships to the College as part of the new Building Higher Prepaid Scholarship Program.

LEGOLAND® Florida Resort’s initial investment of $30,000 to the Polk State College Foundation has launched the Building Higher Prepaid Scholarship Program for LEGOLAND® Florida Resort employees.

“Polk State College is proud to build on its longstanding partnership with LEGOLAND® Florida Resort, which continues to provide internship and employment opportunities for hundreds of Polk State students and alumni,” Polk State President Angela Garcia Falconetti said. “This new initiative is a testament to our success as partners in creating a powerful workforce pipeline that is propelling the economic development of Polk County forward through academic and career-building opportunities.”

Building Higher pre-paid scholarships will ensure that eligible LEGOLAND® Florida Resort employees have no out-of-pocket tuition costs by covering tuition balances at Polk State upfront that are not already covered by other forms of financial aid. The scholarships will cover all degree and non-degree programs, and provide financial support for employees who meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of four full days of work availability per week
  • Minimum of 60 days of employment service
  • Maximum of five classes/15 credit hours per semester
  • Maintain a minimum grade of C in each class

“At LEGOLAND® Florida Resort, our employees, known as Model Citizens, are the heart of the guest experience. Through our benefit programs and development opportunities, we strive to ensure that our Model Citizens have the opportunity for personal and professional growth,” said Rex Jackson, Managing Director of LEGOLAND® Resorts – North America. “Our special relationship with Polk State College provides our Model Citizens with access to a high-quality education, right here in Polk County. I have valued the partnership that LEGOLAND® Florida Resort has had with Polk State College through the years and I’m excited to see the next chapter unfold through our new Building Higher prepaid scholarship program, which will provide new opportunities and career growth for our Model Citizens.”
