To ease the financial burden of higher education, Polk State College is offering students the option of paying tuition in monthly installments rather than as a lump sum.
The College, in cooperation with NELNET Business Solutions, will allow students to pay their spring semester tuition in as many as four payments.
The plan is interest fee. Participants must make a down payment on their tuition expenses and pay a small enrollment fee, ranging from $25 to $35 depending on the plan.
Students must be enrolled in classes before they can enroll in a tuition payment plan. Registration for the spring term begins Nov. 7.
Students can set up a tuition payment plan through the College’s PASSPORT by clicking on the “Tuition Payment Plan” link from the “My Financials” section. They may also select “Tuition Payment Plan” when choosing a payment method.
Students need an active email address and method of payment at the time of enrolling in a tuition payment plan.
Students are encouraged to sign up for a tuition payment plan as soon as possible. By doing so, they have more payment options and they will pay a lower enrollment fee and down payment.
A new tuition payment plan is required for each term. Existing Polk State College debt can’t be added to a payment plan.
The last day to enroll in a tuition payment plan is Jan. 4.
The spring semester will be the seventh term that Polk State has offered the tuition payment plan option. Assistant controller John Sprenkle said when the option was first offered, about 200 students enrolled. Now more than 900 are using a tuition payment plan.
“In this economy, people are looking for any options they can get ahold of to pay for their education. This is another method for people to be able to afford to go to college. It’s a convenience for our students that was a no-brainer,” he said.
Students who need to make changes to their existing agreements may call NELNET at 1-800-609-8056. For questions about tuition payment plan coverage as shown in PASSPORT, call the Polk State College Office of Student Accounts at 863-297-1082 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
