Polk State Academic Support Line for technology expands to online form in Canvas

Polk State College’s Academic Support Line (ASL) is available to students who are seeking access to technology resources. Since April 2020, the ASL (863.669.2833) has served as a phone line for students to call when they need webcams or computers or have questions about technology to take courses online. Now students also have access to an online form in Canvas under the “Help” tab to request assistance with technology resources.

“Polk State learned early on during the COVID-19 public health emergency that many students would need access to technology in order to manage their coursework,” said Cody Moyer, Polk State College’s Director of Learning Technology. “The College had the foresight to quickly create a system that made technology available on loan for students and has maintained that system as it allows students to be more successful.”

Nearly 400 students borrowed technology by making requests through the ASL between the Spring 2020 Semester to Fall 2021 Term, allowing them to successfully participate in online courses.

“Our ASL phone line will still be available to students Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, the online form in Canvas allows students to make a request for technology at any time that is convenient for them,” said Moyer.
