New Citrus Connection bus stop in front of Polk State Advanced Technology Center expands access to workforce training

Posted on by Polk Newsroom

Citrus Connection will add a new bus stop directly in front of Polk State College’s Advanced Technology Center at 310 Technology Drive in Bartow starting on August 4, eliminating the nearly 1-mile walk students and commuters previously faced from the Highway 60 drop-off location.

The timing of the new stop could not be better, as it coincides with the start of the next Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Machining class – a high-demand, high-wage trade program offered at the ATC.

“This is a game changer for our students,” said ATC Executive Director Patty Collins. “Access to reliable, direct public transportation makes it possible for more people to pursue technical education and receive training for careers that are in demand across industries in Polk County. This addition will have benefits far beyond our College.”

Citrus Connection General Manager Tom Phillips echoed the importance of accessibility.

“We are proud to support our County’s largest workforce training provider and the development of our region by improving access to programs like CNC Machining and the future Welding Program launching at Polk State,” Phillips said. “This Citrus Connection stop is about connecting people with opportunity.”

Polk State students benefit from free Citrus Connection transportation with a valid Polk State student ID, making public transportation an even more valuable resource for those pursuing higher education and technical training.
