Nearly 600 Polk State classes participating in First Day Access Textbook Savings Program

Posted on by Polk Newsroom

Polk State College has partnered with Barnes and Noble as well as numerous textbook publishers to offer the First Day Access Textbook Savings Program, a program that provides students with reduced-price course materials on the first day of classes at a savings of 20 percent or more off national retail prices.

Nearly 600 course sections are participating in the program during the spring semester, and students in these courses are automatically enrolled to receive reduced-price course materials. At the time of course registration, charges for digital course materials are assessed to a student’s Passport account as “Bookstore Charges.” First Day material charges can be paid using financial aid for students who qualify. If a student does not qualify for financial aid or financial aid is not sufficient to cover the charges the student will be responsible to pay using other means.

Students who do not want to participate in the program must opt-out during the first week of class. Opt-out deadlines are as follows:

Classes starting February 2, 2022 – Opt-out by February 8, 2022

Classes starting March 7, 2022 – Opt-out by March 14, 2022

To see if a course and section is participating with First Day, students are encouraged to look for the First Day icon in Canvas on the course homepage or in the course announcements, check with their instructor, course syllabus, or the Polk State College Bookstore website at polk.bncollege.com.

Accessing First Day materials is simple through Canvas. Students should open their Canvas Dashboard, select the course, and click on the Course Materials link. Students who wish to opt-out should access the First Day link in their Canvas course and click “Want to opt-out?”
