The new campus provides a Polk State education closer to home for those who live in the fastest-growing region of Polk County. Within a 10-mile radius of the new campus, there are 80,000 residents whose educational attainment is a high school diploma or some college, but no degree. Currently, residents of Northeast Polk County must commute at least 30 miles roundtrip to reach a Polk State campus.
Adjacent to AdventHealth Heart of Florida, the facility will feature Central Florida’s first public higher education interdisciplinary simulation hospital. It will also house classroom, laboratory, and office spaces to support workforce training in Health Sciences. Students in these limited-admission programs will also be able to register for their courses for the Spring 2027 Semester and should work with their program directors and advisors.
The $51 million Haines City-Davenport Campus was made possible through contributions and funding from the Florida Legislature. Polk State received $13.2 million in public education capital outlay (PECO) funding in 2022 to begin the development of the campus. In 2024, $8.1 million in PECO funding was allocated to the project. This session, Polk State was awarded $7.6 million to complete the project.
Additionally, Barney Barnett and the Barnett family pledged $3 million, and the Polk State Foundation raised approximately $300,000 through A Night of Legacy.
“The opening of the Haines City-Davenport Campus represents a significant investment in the future of Northeast Polk County, expanding access to higher education, and creating new opportunities for students to achieve their academic and career goals close to home,” said Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas. “We are grateful to Governor Ron DeSantis, the Florida Legislature, and the Polk County Delegation for their commitment to higher education and for providing the funding that helped make this campus a reality. This facility will serve as a catalyst for economic growth, workforce development, and student success throughout the region for generations to come.”
