Enroll at Polk State College to become a machinist in 9 weeks

Polk State College is registering for its Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Machinist certification programs at its Clear Springs Advanced Technology Center in Bartow, and with scholarship opportunities available, this opportunity provides an affordable—or free—pathway to a rewarding career in just nine weeks.

CNC Operator

This entry-level certification course trains students for manufacturing positions, aligning with National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) credentials. Covering CNC machine setup, operation and safety, students gain hands-on experience with two-axis CNC lathes, three-axis CNC mills and grinders.

CNC Programmer

Students can take their skills further with this advanced certification course, designed to prepare them for CNC programming roles. Aligned with additional NIMS credentials, it covers CNC milling, turning and quality control standards, including G-code programming and two-axis/three-axis CNC operations. Graduates will earn certification as CNC Programmers.

  • When: Operator: Aug. 4 – Oct. 3; Programmer: Oct. 6 – Dec. 12
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Transportation

Students who need transportation will benefit from a new Citrus Connection bus stop in front of the Advanced Technology Center. Polk State students receive free Citrus Connection transportation with a valid Polk State student ID. Citrus Connection information, including route maps and times, is available at ridecitrus.com.

Scholarships Available

Generous funding is provided by Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation, the Gene Haas Foundation and The Composite Institute (IACMI), making these programs accessible to aspiring machinists.
