More than 130 Polk State faculty, staff, students, family, and friends helped raise money to fight heart disease and stroke by taking part in the 2014 Heart Walk on Oct. 11 at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.

“We had a fantastic showing of Polk State faculty, staff, and students at the Heart Walk,” said President Eileen Holden, chair-elect of this year’s event and 2015 chair. “Thanks to Laurel Smith for her continued leadership in promoting wellness and health at Polk State.”

Through individual donations and fundraising efforts, Polk State walkers contributed $1,525.

Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk raises funds to save lives from this country’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers — heart disease and stroke.
