Cyber Security Month 2017
As we move further into the Information Age, we must share responsibility to make cyberspace a more secure environment for ourselves and future generations. We all regularly use the Internet to communicate with colleagues, share vital information, and conduct business, yet our collective cybersecurity is threatened on a daily basis by online criminals who wish to harm us.
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about cybersecurity. We live in a world that is more connected than ever before. The Internet touches almost all aspects of everyone’s daily life, whether we realize it or not. National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives to raise awareness about cybersecurity, provide tools and resources needed to stay safe online, and increase the resiliency of our nation in the event of a cyber-incident.
In the coming weeks and months, I encourage you to join Polk State College’s efforts to participate in the Stop.Think.Connect. Campaign by:
- Becoming familiar with informational posters around campus
- Participating in the Cyber Security scavenger hunt
- Reading and watching the Cyber Security emails and videos that are located in the Cyber Security Awareness Month Site
For additional information about the Stop.Think.Connect Campaign and to become a friend, you are encouraged you to visit www.dhs.gov/stopthinkconnect. Technology Services looks forward to hearing about the great efforts Polk State College employees are making to advance cyber security awareness, internally and externally, for our organization. Remember: securing cyberspace starts with you.
