Polk State Music to Set Holiday Mood with “Tis the Season”

Posted on by Polk Newsroom

Polk State Music will present Tis the Season, featuring a wide array of holiday music, on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the Polk State Winter Haven Fine Arts Theatre.

“If you’re already in the holiday spirit, come and enjoy,” said Polk State Music Professor John Anderson. “And if you’re not, we guarantee you will be by the time you leave.”

The repertoire for Tis the Season includes familiar favorites such as “Have Yourself a Merry Christmas,” to be performed by the College’s women’s chorus, La Dolce Fiamma; “All I want for Christmas,” to be performed by the quartet Force of Attraction; a rousing arrangement of “Jingle Bells,” to be performed by the concert choir; and two movements from “The Nutcracker Suite.”

More unusual selections will include “Riu Riu Chiu,” a traditional Spanish Christmas carol to be performed by the men’s chorus, and the haunting “O Magnum Mysterium” to be performed by the concert choir

“This is going to be a short, sweet, very fast-paced concert that will get straight to the point: You can’t have the holidays without music, whether it’s the music you know and love, or music you haven’t heard of, but you’re sure to enjoy,” Anderson said.

The concerts are free to College students and employees with ID. All others are $5.

The Winter Haven Fine Arts Theatre is located at 999 Ave. H N.E.

In addition to Polk State Music, Polk State Fine Arts includes the College’s Theatre and Visual Arts departments, all of which enjoy outstanding statewide reputations.
