Polk State College and the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce are partnering to create a series of seminars and classes for local professionals.

The Greater Bartow Chamber Professional Development Academy kicks off March 25 at 7:30 a.m. at the Polk State Clear Springs Advanced Technology Center, 310 Technology Drive in Bartow.

The initial installment of the Academy, “Instant Insight: 15 Questions to Great Relationships,” will be presented by J. Lenora Bresler, a speaker, author, trainer and coach who specializes in personal development.

Bresler will cover techniques that will help attendees make informed recruitment decisions, develop individual employees and create more synergistic teams, quickly diagnose and troubleshoot problems on existing teams, motivate employees, ease tensions in strained relationships and develop trust and credibility.

Polk State’s Nyrka Riskin said the material to be presented at the workshop will be beneficial to any type or size of organization.

“These trainings are geared toward business owners, professionals, employees of any kind, or anyone who is interested in improving their professional development skills and knowledge,” said Riskin, program coordinator of the Polk State Corporate College’s Professional Development Institute, who is the College’s point-person on the Chamber’s Professional Development Academy.

Riskin said future dates and topics for the Academy are still being determined. As the Academy progresses, participants may have the ability to earn professional certificates.

Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jeff Cark said he looks forward to building the Professional Development Academy with the College.

“The Chamber is very excited to be able to offer this type of quality training. It’s a great fit with our goals of improving and advancing local businesses and their employees,” he said.

The first workshop is free to the public and includes breakfast. Attendees of the session will qualify for a 10-percent discount on a future workshop, and will be entered into a drawing for a 50-percent discount on a future workshop as well.
