TALENTED PCC STUDENTS ARE ART SHOW WINNERS; APRIL SHOW INCLUDES
400 WORKS OF ART
04/06/2007: The
talents of Polk Community College’s art students are showcased in
nearly 400 pieces of art on exhibit in the Fine Arts Gallery,
Winter Haven campus during April. Their work comprises the 2007
Student Art Show and Competition. A spectrum of high quality
artwork will be on display in the Gallery through April 20.
The Fine Arts
Gallery is open weekdays from 10 am to noon. Admission is free.
Ribbons are awarded in
seven categorie s
and Best of Show.
•BEST OF SHOW
went to David Warren, of Lakeland, who also won
five other awards. Judges awarded the Best of Show award to
David for a large self portrait entitled “Self in Acrylic.” He
also won the
BEST OF DRAWING ribbon for a large black and white
drawing of “Bono” in concert. David Warren also took home a
Judges’ Choice Awards for a mixed media piece called “Babel Fish.”
A pencil self portrait entitled “Self in Pencil” earned both an
Award of Merit and a Purchase Award.

•BEST OF MIXED
MEDIA: Peg Critendon, of Eagle Lake won for her “Tribal
Synthesis.” Peg also won three Awards of Merit for a mixed
media piece entitled “Farm Memories Unlocked,” an acrylic called
“Empathy,” and a pastel entitled “Omar.”
•BEST OF
GRAPHICS: Ed Nievas, of Winter Haven, for “Tower of
Terror.”
•BEST OF
WATERCOLOR: Sandra Goolsby, of Lakeland, for “Yellow
Row Boat.” She also garnered a Judges’ Choice Awards for a
watercolor called “Magnolia.”

•BEST OF
PAINTING: Pat Howard, of Winter Haven, for “Tiger.”
•BEST OF 3-D:
Jamie Judino, of Lakeland, for “Basket of Hope.”
•BEST OF
PHOTOGRAPHY: Samantha Johnson, of Auburndale, for
“Shadow.”
•JUDGES’ CHOICE
AWARDS:
Two awards went to Yuling Liu, of Davenport, for
“Shape” and “Flowers.” “Shape” also won a Purchase Award.

•AWARDS OF
MERIT:
Chelo van Leeuwaarde, of Winter Haven, won three of
these awards for mixed media creations “Modern Women,” “Paths In
Life” and “Sunshine.”
Two of these awards went to Cannon Bigsby, of Fort Meade,
for photographs entitled “Vessel,” and “12:42 AM.”
Travis Talley, of Fort Meade, won two of these ribbons for
photographs “Roman Fountain,” and “Self Portrait.”
Two awards went to Sandra Goolsby, of Lakeland, for
watercolors called “Martini” and “Old Shrimp Boats.”
