Two PCC Honor Society Students And A Faculty Advisor Receive PTK Awards

PTK Inducts 97 PCC Students

11/09/2006 Three members of Polk Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society won awards at the recent Phi Theta Kappa regional convention.

Winning were:

·        Tiffany Foskey of Lakeland for Best Essay - plaque and $100 prize

·        Chelo VanLeeuwaarde of Winter Haven for Best in Art.

·        Professor Penny Morris was chosen Advisor of the Year.

PCC’s chapter campaigned and won the office of Leadership, which means the PCC students will assist the Alumni Chapter in hosting the Leadership conference in September 2007. The chapter will also present a workshop in November 2007 on the Leadership Hallmark at the next Regional Convention. This will be a one-hour workshop that emphasizes the aspects of Leadership that would be relevant to Phi Theta Kappa members and officers.

“I was very impressed with our chapter,” said Penny Morris. “They made me very proud to be their advisor with their commitment and mature and professional demeanor.”

Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is limited to students who have at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 and have accumulated at least 12 college level credits at PCC. PTK offers leadership and service opportunities for members and non-members.

To the top.
