Lakeland Campus History
Bldg. Room Map
The $32 million Technology Building on the Polk Community
College/
University of South Florida, Lakeland campus
is a unique two-story joint use educational structure.
Update 12/19/2006:
Construction
was completed in November and faculty and staff have moved into
the building ready for classes in January 2007. The new building includes a large state-of-the-art teaching auditorium, classrooms, labs, offices and ancillary student support
facilities. It is the
third academic building and the tallest structure on the
Lakeland Campus.
Like the rest of
the Lakeland Campus, the new facility will be used by students,
faculty and staff from both PCC and USF. Unlike the Campus’ other
academic buildings, the new structure does not have a courtyard,
but is traditional solid core building. A key design
element is a large interior hallway and atrium that extends up 2½ stories to the roof of the building. It looks and
functions like a mall with lots of glass that fills the space
with light. It promises to be a student friendly environment with
interior landscaping and seating. This air conditioned hallway
also physically divides the building with USF offices and
classrooms on one side and PCC offices and classrooms on the other
side.
