PCC Names New Director of Nursing

Community College has named Dr. Annette Hutcherson
Nursing Program
Director. She has taught nursing
for over 29 years, 17 of those years at PCC. Dr. Hutcherson came
to PCC
in
1989 after moving here from
Mississippi.
She received her B.S. (in 1968) and her Master’s degree (in 1975)
in Nursing both from the University of Mississippi, and her Ed.D
from the University of Southern Mississippi (in 1980). Before
coming to PCC, she taught at community colleges in the Mississippi
gulf coast. “I like the community colleges, because of their
smallness and family atmosphere,” she said.
Dr. Hutcherson has played a key role in PCC’s Nursing Department
and has accomplished much in and out of the classroom. She wrote
the SUCCEED Florida grant, which resulted in PCC being awarded
over $400,000 for expansion of the skills lab and developed the
curriculum for both the paramedic-to-nursing transition and the
revised LPN transition program. She also developed the on-line
Pharmacology course for LPN and Paramedic Transition students.
The new Director has twice been awarded the
PCC Foundation’s Allied
Health Teaching Chair in 1996 and 2002. She was named
Educator/Administrator of the Year in 1994 by the Florida Nurses
Association. The Mississippi Nurses Association also named her
Nurse of the Year in 1987.
While at PCC, Dr. Hutcherson also worked part-time at Lakeland
Regional Medical Center, first as a staff nurse and for the past
nine years as Advanced Practice Specialist assisting the LRMC
staff with educational needs.
In her career, she has served as staff nurse and Director of
Nursing at several Mississippi and Florida health care centers.
She also served for 20 years with the U.S. Army National Guard,
retiring with the rank of Colonel. Her final assignment was Chief
Nurse for the Florida National Guard.
Dr. Hutcherson has served on numerous college committees and
professional and civic organizations. She is a member and former
board member of the American/Florida Nurses' Association and is a
member of the National/Florida League for Nursing. At PCC, she
served as Secretary of the Nursing Faculty Association,
Chairperson of Quality Assurance Committee and member of
college-wide Institutional Effectiveness Committee. She is
President of the Kimberlea Homeowners Association and is a
volunteer with the Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine Clinic
She has two grown children, Ben Gerrard and Christy Grisham, and
three grandchildren. Dr. Hutcherson hobbies include reading and
traveling. |
