PCC Holds its 98th Commencement
05/02/2008: Approximately
450 students will be eligible to march in Polk Community College’s
Commencement
ceremonies
on May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Health Center Gym on the Winter Haven
campus. About 70 percent of our graduates will receive Associate
in Arts (AA) degrees, which are parallel and transferable to state
universities. The remaining 30 percent of the students will
receive Associate in Science (AS) degrees, which lead directly to
employment.
Over
29,500 degrees have been awarded by PCC since it began in 1964.
More than half of PCC's graduates continue to live and work in
Polk County.
DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE GRADUATING CLASS:
4.0 GRADS:
Five students maintained a perfect
4.0 grade point average and will be receiving the Palma & Allen
Cole Award Distinguished Academic Achievement Award and $150 check
from the PCC Foundation. They are:

COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER:
Sheriff Grady Judd, Jr., a 1976 graduate of PCC.
Sheriff Judd
began his career at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in 1972.
After transferring to the Patrol Division in 1974, he quickly
progressed through the ranks – holding every rank from Sergeant to
Colonel. He was elected Sheriff in 2004 and took office in 2005.
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS:
Polk County Fire
Department Chief David Cash
is
a life-long resident of Polk County, Since 2005, he has been Fire
Chief and oversees a paid staff of 240, approximately 100
volunteer firefighters, 30 fire stations, and a $30 million dollar
budget. Polk County is the 65th
largest
department in the United States, according to Firehouse Magazine. |
