Here’s more
information about these programs:
• Educator Preparation Institute is an accelerated program
for non-education majors who wish to become highly qualified
(K-12) teachers and obtain professional state certification. PCC
assists the Polk County School District by recruiting, training
and producing highly-qualified, workforce ready teachers in the
school system. The program features a combination of face-to-face
Saturday classes and Internet courses.

• The
Cardiovascular Technology program will provide training for
individuals as cardiovascular technologists and technicians, who
assist physicians in diagnosing and treating heart and blood

any of three areas of practice: invasive cardiology,
echocardiography, and vascular ultrasound.
• The
Diagnostic Medical Sonography program will provide training
for individuals to properly use ultrasound high frequency sound

used by doctors to diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions
and diseases, as well as monitor fetal development.
• The
Respiratory Care program trains individuals to be a specialist
in the evaluation, treatment and care of patients with heart and
lung problems. Respiratory therapists are responsible for
inserting and maintaining artificial airways and overseeing the
management of critically ill patients. Respiratory Care is a high
pay, high demand occupation.
• LPN-ADN
Bridge and Paramedic-ADN Bridge programs provide an option for
practical nurses and paramedics to receive the training necessary
to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing. With the United States is
in the midst of a nursing shortage, these bridge programs will
provide health care professionals an opportunity spend a year at
PCC and be trained to become a registered nurse.
• Collegiate High School (CHS) represents the next level in
PCC’s dual enrollment, which allows students to take college-level
courses while completing their high school curriculum program. The
goal of some CHS students will be to earn an Associate in Arts
degree (transferable to a state university) while others will be
pursuing an Associate in Science degree in various technology and
health care fields. CHS has been operating for the past four years
on the Lakeland campus and started on the Winter Haven campus this
year.
