Seven PCC Music Students Selected For National Two Year
College Honor Choir
12/14/2006: Seven
Polk Community College music majors were recently selected to
perform in the National Two Year College Honor Choir in March at
the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach. Their selection was
based on nationwide auditions. PCC had the most students selected
out of all the community colleges in Florida. This is the first
time that singers from PCC have received national recognition.
Sponsor of the event is the American Choral Director's
Association, which is America's most scholarly organization of
choral musicians.
The students are: Andrew Canlon,
Melinda Day of
Lakeland, Gayle Gelman
of Lakeland, Monica Molina
of Lakeland, Brandy Schwarting
of Lakeland and Chelsea Wright
of Lakeland.
Nicholas Folkes
of Lakeland was selected as a member of the National
Multi-Cultural Honor Choir made up of singers from high school
through professional singers. Nicholas attended PCC during the
fall and has been accepted by Florida State University School of
Music and will begin there in January.
“We are so fortunate to have so many of our students selected for
this honor,” said John Anderson, PCC’s Music Department
Coordinator. “These students are working very hard to become
outstanding professional musicians. I am proud to have them
represent PCC music at the national level.” |
