PCC Holds Financial Aid Information
and Assistance Event on Feb. 23
PCC
Joins With State of Florida in “College Goal” Program
02/14/2008: Polk
Community College will be participating in a statewide
initiative known as “College Goal.” High school students and their
parents attending the free session will receive Financial Aid
information and help filling out federal aid forms.
The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 9 am - 1 pm. in the
Student Center, Winter Haven
campus. Two $500 scholarships will be given away to two people
attending the event. One scholarship is from the
PCC Foundation and the other
one is from the Florida Department of Education (DOE).
Millions of dollars are available in student aid, but many parents
are confused and discouraged by the forms. One of the biggest
barriers that college bound low-income and minority students is
the eye glazing federal form: Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA). Students will get help filling it out during the Feb.
23 event at PCC, Winter Haven.
Last year more than 4,600 students and families participated in
Florida’s “College Goal” events and many were from low-income and
minority households. The DOE expects to exceed that number this
year.
