State Senator Daryl Jones To Visit Fri., Jan. 18, 2002

Term 2 - 2002:  
State Senator Daryl Jones (D-Miami), a candidate for his party's nomination for governor, will address Polk Community College students, faculty and staff on Jan. 18, 10 a.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre, Winter Haven campus.

Senator Jones will also briefly visit two classes around 11 a.m. Then at 11:30 a.m. he will meet students in the Student Center. On Saturday, Jan. 19, Senator Jones will be the Grand Marshall in the Martin Luther King Parade in Winter Haven.

Senator Jones has more than 11-years service in state government. He graduated in 1977 from the Air Force Academy. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a jet fighter pilot. He spent part the time in the military at Homestead Air Force Base and taught others to fly the F-4 Phantom II.

In 1990, Jones ran for and won a seat in the Florida House of Representatives Two years later he ran and won a seat in the Florida Senate.

Since 1992, Senator Jones has been selected Chair or Vice-Chair of more than six committees. He currently is Democratic- Pro Tempore and is Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee.
