PCC Student Diane
Canady Is Named To All-Florida
Academic Team
2/25/02: Polk Community College student Diane
Canady of Lakeland is
one of 125 students in the state named to the 2002 All-Florida Academic
Team, sponsored by USA Today and Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Diane is
being recognized fo r
her academic achievements, leadership skills and community service.
Diane is President of PCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
She has been a member since 1997. She has tutored in the Teaching,
Learning, Computing Center, is a volunteer for Success By 6 and is has
been named to Who’s Who in Community Colleges. She works 30 hours a week
in the
Payment Audit Department at Publix and attends PCC on a part-time basis.
The mother of three grown sons and three
grandchildren, she earned an Association in Science degree from PCC in
1998. She graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA) and
received the Alan T. Cole Distinguished Academic Achievement Award. She is
currently majoring in accounting and has a 3.97 GPA. She will graduate
this May with an A.S. in Accounting and an Associate in Arts in Business
Administration. She plans to continue her studies at the University of
South Florida.
Diane Canady will be traveling to Tallahassee to
attend an awards ceremony and luncheon on March 7 at the Florida State
University Turnbull Center for Professional Development. At that time she
will receive a Phi Theta Kappa medallion.
Students on the All-Florida Academic Team were
nominated by their college taking into consideration participation in
honors programs; membership in academic honors organizations; awards and
honors received; and sharing of academic attainments, knowledge, skills
and cultural enrichment.
