Faculty | Students | Finding Videos
The primary video collection containing video tapes and DVD film recordings is located at the J. W. Dowdy Library on the third floor of the Learning Resources building (WLR) on the Winter Haven campus. There is a smaller collection of videos housed at the Lakeland campus library. Requests should be made at least two working days in advance to allow time to transfer videos between campuses. Requests for videos can be made as follows:
A. By telephone - call the library's circulation desk at 297-1040 (WH) or 297-1042 (LK) during operating hours.
B. In person - stop by either library.
C. Via LINCC Online Catalog - Locate the catalog record for the video you want to borrow. Scroll down to the blue "Campus/Location/Call Number" bar. Click on the campus location link. On the resulting screen, click the Request link. From the log on screen, verify that the college is set to Polk Community College. Enter your Borrower ID (9 digit social security number), enter your PIN (last 4 digits of your SSN), and click Log on. Follow the on-screen instructions. For intercampus requests, expect a 48 hour turn-around since videos are transferred via the PCC courier. Don't forget to search the digitized video collection for streaming videos you can show in class - http://www.polk.edu/it/library/faculty.htm. Contact the circulation desk for digitized video logon information (WH - ext. 5040, LK - ext. 6203).
D. By carrier pigeon - only kidding! But, we'll take a request in just about any way you can think of, so long as we get all of the information we need to fill your request.
NOTE: Pick up and return your video at the library's circulation desk (specify pick up location when you make your request). Videos lend for a period of three (3) working days. If you require additional time, please tell us so when you make your request or when you pick up your video(s).
Currently enrolled PCC students may view videos and DVD recordings at their campus library only. While students are not permitted to book videos and DVD programs in advance, programs located at the other campus can be transferred to the student's home campus upon request. Allow 2 days for transfer. Videos are also available for placement on Course Reserve for your classes to view at the library.
USING THE LINCC ONLINE CATALOG TO FIND VIDEOS
The PCC library's online catalog system (LINCC) can easily be used to search for videos by title or subject. To search for videos, perform the following steps:
1. From any Web browser, go to the PCC library homepage on the Web - <http://www.polk.edu/it/library>
2. Under the category of Library Catalogs, click on "Search the PCC Library catalog". This will take you to the advanced keyword search screen of our online catalog, LINCCSearch.
3. Toward the bottom of the screen find "Limit Search by (Optional)" and pull-down the menu box labeled "Format". Select "Audio/Visual (Videos, DVDs, etc.)".
4. Select the type of search you want to perform from the menu in "Search by" box. Type your search terms and click on go.
5. Your search will result in only audio/visual type materials. Click on the underlined text for each citation to see a complete record for any item in the result list. Click again on the campus location at the bottom of the screen to determine availability status. Note the relevant information (title, call number, part number, campus location, etc.) to use in making your request and then request the items. Videos cannot be requested directly from LINCC at this time. Refer to request instructions for faculty or students to make your request.
