The following minimum technology requirements are provided as a guide to help students make the best choices regarding their decision to pursue an Internet delivered course at PCC. Individual classes may have additional requirements in addition to those listed (see the current course schedule or contact the instructor for additional information).

Minimum Technology Requirements
Students should have a computer running either Windows XP, Windows Vista or the Macintosh Operating System (v. 10.x) with at least 56K dial-up access to the Internet (PCC does not provide Internet access; students must set up their own account with an Internet service provider of their choice).

Students will also need one of the following web browsers:

Windows Web Browsers:
  • Internet Explorer 6.0
  • Internet Explorer 7.0
  • Firefox 2.0
Macintosh Web Browsers:
  • Safari 2.0
  • Safari 1.3
  • Firefox 2.0

While other web browsers may work with PAL, the above browsers are supported by the PAL system.  It is recommended that students with America Online accounts use one of the web browsers above while connected to the America Online service to access PAL.  TLCC computers may be used for web access and access to web-based e-mail accounts (such as Hotmail or Yahoo Mail).

Additional Minimum Technology Requirements for CGS1061C and CGS1100:
In addition to the above requirements, students enrolled in CGS1061C and CGS1100 will need the following: a broadband (cable modem or DSL recommended) Internet connection, Windows XP and Office XP Professional. This will be needed to complete the testing requirements of this course. Students who do not meet the additional requirements listed above will be required to go to the TLCC on either campus for testing.

Virus Damage Policy
Polk Community College is not responsible for damage to or loss of data from an individual's disk storage media or home computer resulting from email or any other kind of file transfers from PCC faculty or staff members and/or other students. PCC does everything within its power to insure that harmful files will not be propagated but it is the student's responsibility to provide for the protection of their personal hardware, software and data. We encourage all students to scan any files they receive before using them on their computer with a currently updated virus protection product. Students should maintain electronic copies of all of their work throughout a term, so they always have a backup if data gets lost and/or corrupted on the Internet.
