Dress Code for Class

Dress Code for Classrooms and Fieldwork:

· Navy blue scrubs |
|
· Program patch on the anterior aspect of the left shoulder |
|
· Neutral color sneakers or shoes (no open toes or heels) |
|
· Females: minimal jewelry (no dangling earrings or dangling bracelets, no visible body piercing)
· Males: minimal jewelry (no hoops, no visible body piercing, dangling bracelets…) |
|
· No hats or headdresses unless required by religious guidelines |
|
· No visible body piercing (eyebrows, ears, nose, lips, tongue…) |
|
· Females: clean & groomed hair, conservative haircut; tied back if long
· Males: clean & groomed hair; conservative haircut |
|
· Name tag |
|
· Minimal make-up |
|
· Minimal perfume |
|
· Short nails; no acrylic nails |
Dress Code for Labs:
|
· Tank tops and shorts may be required for specific labs |
|
· Easy to remove, neutral color sneakers or shoes |
|
· Exercise or biking shorts (mid-thigh or knee-length) and leotards may be required for Anatomy & Kinesiology courses |
|
· No visible body piercing (eyebrows, ears, nose, lips, tongue…) |
|
· Females: clean & groomed hair, conservative haircut; tied back if long
· Males: clean & groomed hair; conservative haircut |
|
· Name tag |
|
· Minimal jewelry (no dangling earrings or bracelets) |
|
· Minimal make-up |
|
· Minimal perfume |
|
· Short nails; no acrylic nails |
Dress Code when in the OTA Building:
|
· Scrubs are not mandated; shirts, T-shirts may be worn, but no offensive or vulgar slogans allowed
· No revealing garments allowed or underwear showing |
|
· Sweat suits or any comfortable garments allowed, as long as they are not revealing. |
|
· Walking shorts allowed; revealing shorts are not allowed |
|
· No hats or headdresses unless required by religious guidelines |
Note: These guidelines were developed with input from students. Some clinical settings may require a different dress code. The purpose of dress codes is to assist each student to learn and adopt the professional appearance enforced in the clinical settings, develop professional behaviors necessary for a successful career in healthcare, and increase visibility of the OTA program within the community.
