The goal of the Polk State College Early Childhood Education program is to promote competence and professionalism in administrators, directors, teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, and volunteers who work with children, from infancy through preschool, in a wide variety of early care and education settings. College credit courses and professional development classes provide classroom and practical experiences necessary to meet the emotional, creative, social, cognitive, and physical needs of children in these formative years. The curriculum focuses on providing students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for safe, healthy, and developmentally-appropriate programs.
Students transfer theories learned into practice by working together in a stimulating and supportive classroom environment. Collaborative learning activities are facilitated by a highly qualified faculty of experienced early childhood professionals.
