Captain William T. Mann has over 22 years of professional law enforcement experience with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. He has line and supervisory experience in nearly every major facet of a law enforcement organization including: patrol, criminal investigations, special investigations, intelligence, special operations and training. Captain Mann holds an Associate of Science degree from Finger Lakes Community College, an Associate of Arts degree from Saint Leo College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from Saint Leo College, and a Master of Public Administration degree from Troy State University. Additionally, he completed the Graduate Level 117th Administrative Officer’s Course (AOC) at the Southern Police Institute through the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky. Captain Mann also completed the Certified Public Manager (CPM) program offered through Florida State University. Capt. Mann is also a Graduate from the Polk State College Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

Sgt. James "Chip" Roberts has 21 years of law enforcement experience. Sgt. Roberts has been with the Lakeland Police Department since 1989. He has held several positions throughout his career to include: Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Technician, Street Crimes Unit, Community Policing, and S.W.A.T. In addition to serving in these capacities, Sgt. Roberts has supervisory experience in the Uniform Patrol Division, Community Policing Section, and was the Executive Director of the Lakeland Police Athletic League. Sgt. Roberts holds a B.A. degree in Criminology from Saint Leo University and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Troy State University. Sgt Roberts is also an adjunct professor for Kaplan University and Polk State College. Sgt. Roberts began his assignment as Law Enforcement Coordinator at the Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety in July of 2008.

Mr. Louis Currier is a retired police officer from the town of Salem, New Hampshire. He started his law enforcement career with the U.S. Air Force. He has also worked for the New Hampshire Department of Corrections and the New Hampshire State Police. Mr. Currier holds a Master's degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology from Ashford University, a B.S. degree in Business Management from Granite State College, an A.S. degree in Training Management, and an A.S. degree in Security Administration from the Community College of the Air Force

Sgt. Darren Chambers has been with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office since July 2002. He has held several positions throughout his career to include: Senior Drill Instructor, Housing Supervisor, Administration Sergeant, and SWAT. He is currently assigned to the Polk State College Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety as the Agency Detention and Crossover to Corrections Program Coordinator. Sgt. Chambers served in the U.S. Army from 1989 – 1996 and the Army National Guard from 1996 – 2003. He holds an Associate in Liberal Arts from Polk Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of South Florida, and has completed the Certified Public Manger program through Florida State University. He is currently enrolled in the Florida State University Criminal Justice Masters Degree program.

Sgt. Angela Sockwell completed the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the Osceola Criminal Justice Academy and has 13 years of experience in law enforcement with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Orlando Police Department. Sgt. Sockwell has spent the majority of her career working as a detective in various investigative units, to include: property crimes, narcotics, vice, organized crime, fraud, homicide, and special victims. Most recently, she supervised the Special Victims Unit for nearly three years. Sgt. Sockwell has also served as a Detective Training Instructor, Detective Training Supervisor, and has been an adjunct instructor for the Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety since 2009. Sgt. Sockwell holds an Associate of Arts degree from Polk State College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Warner University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University. Sgt. Sockwell is also a graduate of the Certified Public Manager program through Florida State University.

Sgt. Aden Krug has been with the Winter Haven Police Department since June 1999. He has served in the Uniform Patrol Division, Community Policing Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Special Investigations Unit, and is currently under the command of the Training Section in the Support Services Bureau. He has served as a Field Training Officer, Detective, and the Emergency Response Team. Sgt. Krug holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University

Selection Center Coordinator: Burton Tew (Retired Major)

Mr. Tew has a total of forty-three years of criminal justice-related experience. His experience includes two years as a military policeman, twenty-nine years with the Lakeland Police Department, retiring with the rank of major, and twelve-years with Florida Department of Law Enforcement, retiring as a Senior Management Analyst II. He holds an A.A. degree from Polk Community College, B.S. and M.S. degrees from Rollins College. Mr. Tew currently serves in a part-time capacity since 2002 as the coordinator for the assessment and selection of candidates applying for law enforcement academy classes at the Institute of Public Safety.
Mrs. Bull has thirty years professional experience. She served as Administrative Assistant and Branch Administrator in Human Resources for twelve years. She has worked for organizations such as aerospace, engineering, television, hospitalization, and regional retail. Mrs. Bull joined the Institute of Public Safety in December of 2005.

Ms.Mabe has 20 years of secretarial/clerical experience. She was a secretary with the Australian Government for 15 years, including 4 years with the New South Wales Police Department and postings to Malaysia, Austria, and Washington DC with the Australian Federal Government. Ms. Mabe has also worked for a variety of other organizations, including local government, healthcare, and a non-profit organization. Ms. Mabe joined the Institute of Public Safety in September 2006.

Mrs. Nathans has thirty years of professional experience. She has served as an Office Manager, Health Information Manager, Assistant H.I.M. Director, Regional H.I.M. Consultant and as a secondary teacher for students with learning disabilities. She has worked for a variety of organizations, including education and healthcare organizations, where she had the opportunity to compile information for the accreditation process. Mrs. Nathans holds an Associate of Science degree from Holyoke Community College, Holyoke, Massachusettes, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration from St. Leo College.
