 Volunteer Opportunities

Polk State College's Core Values are Collaboration, Commitment, Diversity, Excellence, Integrity, Leadership and Service.  It is through our commitment to service that we meet the needs of our students, community, and each other.  Numerous opportunities are available to volunteer at the college.  Please request more information about each volunteer opportunity directly from the contact colleague listed below:

First Days – During the first two days of each term at PSC, stations, staffed by employees, are available on the Winter Haven and Lakeland campuses for students to receive information, general directions, and a warm smile.

4-1-1 (Four books, one college, one reading world) – PSC’s annual college-wide reading initiative event held in the fall. Employees are invited to choose one book among four titles that the 4-1-1 ad hoc committee has chosen based upon a college-wide recommendations gathered from a survey administered each spring.  Volunteers are needed to serve as committee members as well as event participants.

 

2009-10 - Pay It Forward by Catherine Ryan Hyde; All God’s Children Wear Traveling Shoes by Maya Angelou; The Professor and the Housekeeper by Ogawa Yoko; Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

 

2008-09 – Teacher Man by Frank McCourt; Life and Def by Russell Simmons;  The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch; The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

Graduation – Volunteers are needed to serve as ushers, hosts, and for student and faculty check-in.

Professional Development Day – PSC’s annual event that takes place during the spring.  Volunteers are needed as ad hoc committee members, presenters and/or facilitators for the event.

PSC Health Fair - Held on both campuses during the spring term, PSC offers opportunities for employees and students to receive health screening services.  Health vendors participate at the health fair(s) and The Heart and Sole Walk Club members and volunteers are encouraged to particpate. Women's History Month -  The month of March is National Women's History Month.  Each year Polk State College plans activities that celebrate and recognize women's historic achievements as well as honor women in our professions, homes and communities.  Volunteers are encouraged to participate for the events throughout the month which include serving food, set-up, and help with publicity and distribute materials.  The following events are in need of volunteers:

  • March 3, Kick- off, Winter Haven campus 11:45 - 1:00 pm
  • March 4, Kick-off, Lakeland campus 11:45 - 1:00 pm
  • March 15, National Speaker, Stacy Nadeau, Lakeland campus - 7:00 pm
