Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out what my email address is?

  1. New and readmitted students will receive their email address in their Conditions of Admissions letter.
  2. All students will receive an email to their personal email address that was provided to the College.
  3. Students can also find their Polk State College email address by logging in to PASSPORT and following these steps:
    1. Log into PASSPORT with your Student ID and PIN. 
    2. Your PSC email address will appear in the My Details section of PASSPORT and will conform to [your mail account name] @my.polk.edu.

What is my password?
Your initial password to activate your account is your Polk State College Student ID. Your student id. is nine characters and begins with a letter (excluding dashes).  When you first log in to StudentMail, you will be prompted by the system to change your password.

How do I set up my account?
In order to set up your account, you will need to know your Polk State College email address (see above).

Steps:

  • Go to the PASSPORT login page and click the StudentMail link on the left side of the screen. or go to http://outlook.com.
  • At the Windows Live Provide Account Information page, enter your Windows Live ID, which is your Polk State College StudentMail account name found in PASSPORT.
  • Enter your Polk State College Student ID as your initial password.  
  • For first-time use, you will be asked to change your password.
  • Next, select a question and provide the secret answer.
  • The next four fields (Country, State, Zip Code and Birth Year) will be filled in for you.
  • Click I accept.
  • Click on Sign in to Windows Live and log in to your account with your PSC email address and new password to complete the activation.

No. Polk State College StudentMail is completely free!

Who is eligible for a Polk State College email address?

Each student who applies to Polk State College, both credit and non-credit, as well as currently or previously enrolled students, will be assigned an email address.

What is the size limit? 
10 GB/user of email storage. 25GB of online storage with Windows Live SkyDrive.

Can this account be used for personal email also?
Yes.

Can I change my Polk State College student email address?
Your assigned email address cannot be changed unless you have legally changed your name. Please contact Admissions or the Registrar's office to change your name in the system.

Can I forward Polk State College email to my personal email address?
Yes, but do so at your own discretion! Other services may consider StudentMail as spam and send it directly to your junk folder. You will still be responsible for reading important college email. Using StudentMail is the best way to assure that email from Polk State College will be delivered to your inbox.

How do I forward my Polk State College email to another email account?
Yes. From the Inbox page of your Polk State College StudentMail account, choose "Options" at the top right corner of the page. Then choose "More Options" at the bottom of the menu. This will take you to a page with a link for forwarding your PSC email to another account. Note: Forwarded messages are deleted from Windows Live!

Can I upgrade my account to a premium account?
No.

Can I still use this email account if I am no longer a student at Polk State College?
Yes, your account will remain active as long as you need it.

Will this account be mandatory for emailing homework?
Your professors will let you know their procedures at the beginning of each term. However, students enrolled in Internet distance learning classes at Polk State College will still be required to use PAL email as their communication system in their online classes.

Will other students have access to my email address?
Polk State College makes every effort to protect the privacy of its students. There is no global address book or directory where a student can look up another student’s email address.

Do I need to use a Windows PC or Microsoft Internet Explorer?
No. All the web-based services included in your Polk State College StudentMail can be accessed from Windows, Mac, or Linux using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and other browsers.

What will the College use my Polk State College email address for?
The College uses email as an official means of communication with students. Polk State College will send important information, notices, and student updates to your email account. Also, your professors may use it for course communication.

How can I get help if I run into trouble with StudentMail?
If you need additional assistance, please complete a
Student Help Desk Quick Ticket or contact the
Student Help Desk at 863-298-6839:
Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.  
Friday:  8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.   
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS EMAIL ACCOUNT WILL NOT REPLACE THE COLLEGE’S ELEARNING SYSTEM EMAIL IN PAL.
