Succeed Florida Grant for Training in High-Tech Manufacturing- January 2008We are now recruiting participants for the first of 3 (maybe 4) Succeed Manufacturing Training Grant classes. This is your opportunity to nominate employees, prospective new hires, or other interested participants to attend these training classes. As a reminder, the Succeed Manufacturing Training Grant goals and deliverables: - Intended Target Audience: post-secondary students, either recently hired in manufacturing, or seeking to start a manufacturing career. - Establish an Education committee of County Business Partners (DONE) Next meeting is at 10 AM, on Tues., 2-5-08 at the PCC Winter Haven Campus' Student Service Center. - Enroll at least 45 students (will accept up to 55) in a well rounded manufacturing curriculum, intended to deliver a broad base of manufacturing skills applicable to a wide array of manufacturing endeavors practiced here in Polk County. Students will receive tuition free scholarships. - Graduate 36 students with MSSC Production Technician Certification (Manufacturing Skills Standards Council). Assessments, Registration with MSSC and Testing cost will paid by the grant. - Place 25 students with Polk County employers, and/or tract their promotion opportunities, post grant participation. Partner with Polk Works, and local Employment and Training Specialist. IMPLEMENTATION/RECRUITING DETAILS: Class dates and locations have been set as follows:
Please express your opinion for or against an afternoon class time of 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm as an alternative. Both start time will not be offered. - Class time will include 62 hours of instruction in the Banner Manufacturing "Essentials" curriculum, featuring five Units of study; Employability Skills, Production Processes, Maintenance Awareness, Quality Assurance, & Safety. 18 hours of MSSC tutoring and (live) practice test opportunities. - Students can take the proctored/on-line MSSC test battery and gain the coveted Production Technicians Certification at PCC's TLCC center at the Lakeland Campus. - Unemployed students will participate in exclusive job fairs with Polk County employers for priority manufacturing placement. - Ideal candidates will have a keen interest in manufacturing, can demonstrate a TABE test result of an 8th grade reading comprehension and math computation level, or be considered a highly motivated, ambitious and engaging employee. - Instruction will be provided by PCC Adjuncts affiliated with Rockwell/RWD Technologies. CANDIDATES CAN COME FROM THE FOLLOWING SOURCES: 1. Polk County Schools Career Centers and Adult Learning Centers. 2. Polk County Employers seeking skill upgrades for recent new hires. 3. Polk Works referrals, either universal pool candidates, WIA or TANF eligible or Youth (18 and older). 4. Personnel placement service firms. 5. Private workforce training schools located in Polk County or serving Polk residents. 6. Word of mouth referrals. 7. As of March 1, 2007, the PMA has supported training through several workforce development grants. These training programs focus on several areas of impact, relating to the level of skill and abilities of the workers involved. The impact of each program is listed by program name: BEST Manufacturing Grant- High/High (high skill/high wage)- 425 employees trained Better/Better- 33 trained First/First- 121 trained Incumbent Worker (IWT) Grant- PLC training- 195 ATS training- 81 BEST II Manufacturing Grant- High/High- 211 trained in areas of PLC, ATS, LEAN Manufacturing and Process Support Techniques Better/Better- 80 trained in Pre-Manufacturing Skills All of these numbers indicate workers who are either currently employed by participating PMA members or are seeking employment in High Skill/High Wage Manufacturing companies.
