The length of
the school year and instructional time for high schools is mandated
by Florida Statutes and rules of the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools (that shall henceforth be referred to in this
document as SACS). The Polk Community College Collegiate High
Schools will follow the Polk County School Board’s traditional
academic year school calendar. The year is divided into two high
school college terms that basically run concurrently. All students
are expected to attend school from 7:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. each of
the 180 days of the School Board of Polk County calendar, unless
formal arrangements are made with the appropriate CHS Director. On
certain days, i.e. exam days, it may be necessary to change the
length of the school day. Parents will be notified in writing prior
to any schedule/bussing change. There are a number of days during
the two terms that are student holidays for high school classes. On
these days there will be no school bus transportation. It is the
responsibility of the student to refer to the combined school
calendar and make note of days with special circumstances. The
college term typically is shorter in duration than a high school
term.
