Polk Community College awards
credit to International Baccalaureate students using the guidelines
established in SBE Rule 6A-10.024 (8). Scores achieved on IB
Diploma examinations and the transfer of credit are mandatory
under the provisions of the rule in the following manner:
Students who have been awarded the IB Diploma
are awarded up to thirty (30) semester credits in the subject
areas in
which they scored four (4) or above on IB
Diploma program examinations. The credits are awarded as follows:
1. Six (6) semester credits for each
IB examination on which they scored five (5) or above.
2. Three (3) semester credits for each
IB examination on which they scored a four (4).
Students who have not been awarded
the IB Diploma are awarded six (6) semester credits in the subject
areas of each B higher level examination
on which they scored five (5) points or above.
An official IB transcript is required and must be received
directly from the International Baccalaureate Office in New York.
Send requests in writing to International Baccalaureate,
200 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10016 or call (212) 696-4464 for
more information. Evaluation of IB examinations will be made
after the student has been admitted to the college.
Courses for which credit is to be awarded are determined by the
college and are posted on the student's transcript. No grades
or grade points are assigned.
The standard policies of the College prohibiting
credit for overlapping courses apply. No credit is awarded or
accepted in
transfer that duplicates other credit being awarded or accepted
in transfer.
The specific examination's required scores and credits
to be awarded are being reviewed by the college. Once the
determination is made, a brochure will be mailed to each student
in Polk County's IB program and will be available in the
Registrar's office and the Testing Coordinator's office for those
with questions regarding equivalency.
