Attending college can be an exciting
experience. There are so many new and different things to do,
applying to the college, meeting new people, getting around the
campus and finding the right offices and classrooms. Because any
new experience brings with it the likelihood of some uncertainty,
we would like to assist in making your transition to Polk Community
College as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We at PCC are deeply
committed to making your continued education productive and enjoyable.
Take a moment to read this introduction which aims at steering
you in the right direction to get the most from the catalog.
- General Information gives you an overview of Polk Community
College. For help getting around the campuses, refer to the maps
in the back of the Catalog.
- Admission, Advising, Registration,
and Records is where
you start your educational journey. This section gives you everything
you need to know about being admitted to Polk Community College
and registering for classes.
- Financial Aid explains how to apply for a scholarship
or other financial assistance. Several scholarships are listed
in this section. Find additional information about Loans and
Scholarships in Appendix B.
- Services and Activities for
Students provides information
about the various support facilities and clubs available to you.
- Regulations lists all the various rules in effect
at PCC.
- Programs of Study gives you details about the many degree
programs available at Polk Community College.
- Course Descriptions lists and provides a summary for each
course offered at PCC and provides information regarding prerequisites
and corequisites.
- Personnel Directory lists the members of the District Board
of Trustees, our governing body, as well as the full time members
of PCC's administrative and instructional staff.
- Admission: If you are new to PCC, focus on the
Admissions, Advising, Registration, and Records section.
Here you'll find the steps you need to take to be admitted and
register for classes for the first time. Refer to the section
on Programs of Study to determine what classes you'll
need to complete to qualify for an Associate in Arts or Associate
in Science degree. See an Advisor for a print out of all courses
required in your program.
- Registration: Once you're ready to register, consult
a copy of the term schedule booklet listing all classes offered
and the times they are given. For a complete description of each
class, read the Course Description section in the catalog.
- Paying for classes: Follow the fee payment deadlines listed
in the term schedule booklet. A wide variety of Financial Aid
is available. Consult the section in the catalog and visit the
Financial Aid office early for information on deadlines
to apply for scholarships, grants, and loans.
- Once classes begin: To assist you in your studies, take
advantage of the Library and Teaching Learning Computing Center.
Details about these facilities are given in the Services and
Activities for Students section. This is also where you'll
find information about various clubs and extracurricular activities
you can participate in while attending Polk Community College.

Where Do You Go With a Problem? |
Polk Community College students are
governed by the Regulations detailed in the catalog. Regulations
deals with various topics including grades, testing, withdrawal
policy, and PCC's drug policy. You are responsible for knowing
these rules. Your professor is a great resource if you have questions
about PCC academic policy. You also can contact an Advisor in
Student Services located on the Lakeland and Winter Haven campuses.
