CLEP Exams
PCC awards credit for the examinations in the College-Level Examination Program for scores at or above the national 50th percentile on the combined, men-women sophomore norms. Examinations must have been taken in the national administration program of CLEP or institutional administrations using the CLEP Microcomputer Scoring System and transmitting student data to Educational Testing Service.
Course credit cannot be earned from CLEP testing for any course which the student has "attempted."
A course attempt is defined as a course registration still in effect at the end of the Drop/Add period and which is listed on the student's transcript. If a CLEP exam awards credit for multiple courses and the student has attempted one of the courses but not the other, passing scores on that CLEP exam will award credit for the course not previously attempted.

Administration And Fees
CLEP exams are administered every month at Polk Community College on the Winter Haven campus. The only exceptions are the General exam in English Composition with Essay, which is administered only four times per year - January, April, June and October, and the foreign language exams that are available every other month.
The cost per exam is $54, which includes a $44 exam fee and a $10 administration fee. Fees may be paid at the cashier's window on either campus by cash, personal or cashier's check, money order, VISA or MasterCard. Make checks and money orders payable to Polk Community College. Registration must be completed and fees paid at least one week prior to the exam date.

Scores
Score reports are mailed approximately three to four weeks after testing for all exams except English Composition with Essay, which takes 6-10 weeks for scores to be reported. Score reports are mailed to the student and to the college identified as the score recipient at the time of testing. Polk Community College's score recipient code is 5548.
Score reports must be official and sent directly to PCC from Educational Testing Services (ETS). Scores are maintained by ETS for 20 years. If scores are more than 20 years old and cannot be obtained from ETS, credit will not be awarded. Official score reports may be obtained by requesting them in writing from ETS. CLEP Program - ETS. P. O. Box 6600, Mail Stop 18Q, Princeton, NJ 08541-6600 or by calling for more information at (609) 771-7865. Cost per official transcript of all CLEP scores if $15 and takes approximately one week to process.

International Baccalaureate

Polk Community College awards credit to International Baccalaureate students using the guidelines established in SBE Rule 6A-10.024 (8). Scores achieved on IB Diploma examinations and the transfer of credit are mandatory under the provisions of the rule in the following manner:

  • Students who have been awarded the IB Diploma are awarded up to thirty (30) semester credits in the subject areas in which they scored four (4) or above on IB Diploma program examinations. The credits are awarded as follows:
    1. Six (6) semester credits for each IB examination on which they scored five (5) or above.
    2. Three (3) semester credits for each IB examination on which they scored a four (4).
  • Students who have not been awarded the IB Diploma are awarded six (6) semester credits in the subject areas of each IB higher level examination on which they scored five (5) points or above.
An official IB transcript is required and must be received directly from the International Baccalaureate Office in New York. Send requests in writing to International Baccalaureate, 200 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10016 or call (212) 696-4464 for more information. Evaluation of IB examinations will be made after the student has been admitted to the college.
Courses for which credit is to be awarded are determined by the college and are posted on the student's transcript. No grades or grade points are assigned.
The standard policies of the College prohibiting credit for overlapping courses apply. No credit is awarded or accepted in transfer that duplicates other credit being awarded or accepted in transfer.
The specific examination's required scores and credits to be awarded are being reviewed by the college. Once the determination is made, a brochure will be mailed to each student in Polk County's IB program and will be available in the Registrar's office and the Testing Coordinator's office for those with questions regarding equivalency.
